The pressure is on to get "Seikkailu" in the water. Seikkailu, a Finnish word meaning "adventure," is almost ready to touch her belly for the first time in salt water. After extensive refurbishments, including all new mast rigging, removal of 20 years of bottom paint, newly varnished brightwork, updated electrical and navigational systems, a heat-exchanger installed to the engine for saltwater cooling, a new stuffing box, and a bunch of other things I don't even understand... she should be dipping into the water soon. She still needs bottom paint (too cold yet for proper curing).
Tracy has the girl solar-ready for the day we quit our jobs and decide on some long distance adventure. Not sure about that one yet.... Anyway, I am a little nervous about the ocean sailing. I hope to take some US Coast Guard classes this fall so that I can sail the boat back if Tracy goes over (accidentally or intentionally - ha ha).
Our slip, or moorage as they call it out here, is in a pretty cool location. We are on dock B which is second in from the sound. At the entrance of our finger dock is the Marina Village with restaurants, a cute deli/store (with beer, wine, a deli/grill, espresso, ice cream), a barber salon, sushi and fish and chips place, etc. in the summer their is a Farmer's Market on Sundays. The boat will be a great place for family and friends to come and stay (hint hint). More pictures to come as we finish the bottom and get her in the water. Ahhh... can't wait!
