Saturday morning we dropped Benson off at the Kennel and traveled up to Bellingham and Fairhaven for some much needed rest and relaxation. We stayed at the Chrysalis Inn located right on Puget Sound overlooking the San Juan Islands.
Bellingham is a college town (Western Washington University), and Fairhaven is the small historical district where the college is located. It feels a lot like Holland, Michigan, but it has mountains on just about every side. There is ferry service to both the San Juans and to Alaska out of Bellingham, and they have a great marina with guest moorage for fun summer visits.
We had a full two days of shopping, massages, dinner, bookstores, church, and some chilly strolls on the waterfront boardwalk. It was an A+ weekend. Can't wait for the next trip. It is about 50 miles north, and just under an hour away.

Sounds wonderful! A friend of mine has a friend who's in grad school in Bellingham.
Looks like a beautiful place... makes me want to get away somewhere that's scenic and quiet!
