Playing in Portland

Last weekend, Tracy and I took the Amtrak train down to Portland. It is about a three hour trip. We did not expect the record-breaking hot weather... 95 degrees. It was amazingly hot.

We stayed in the Pearl District (at historic hotel called "The Benson" --in honor of our dog), and didn't need to take a taxi once. They have a great streetcar system that runs throughout downtown. It was really easy to use.
Of course, we went to the famous Powells Bookstore. It was huge. I stocked up on some books for work. We stopped in a store called Design Within Reach... kind of an upscale modern home furnishing store. Tracy fell in love with a bike there and decided to take it around Portland for a spin. He left me at the store as collateral.

We managed to fit in about three breweries (Bridgeport, Dechuttes, and Rogue), and we even got sucked into the 80,000 people who flocked down to the riverfront to see Obama speak. That was pretty amazing. I don't think we have ever see such a crowd. The line to get into the rally stretched about 30 blocks. We watched from the marina.
All-in-all, it was a great weekend. Everett may not be the #1 place to live, but you sure can't beat it's central location: 30 minutes to Seattle, 3 hours to Portland, 2.5 hours to Vancouver BC, 1 hour to skiing in the Cascades, and 30 seconds to a sunset sail in the Sound!

Speaking of bikes... Didn't you guys buy some electric bikes? Waiting to see a blog entitled "Tracy and Tina's amazing electric bike adventures"...

Why does the bike have fenders?

A true road bike does not.

And I now have one and have lost 12 pounds since November 07.

Horay for healthy me.
