There are many pros and cons about living in Everett. It isn't the cutest, trendiest little town compared to our neighboring cities but it certainly has its advantages for us. We live within a mile of work, the marina, and the downtown. We are centrally located between Canada, Seattle, and the Cascade Mountains. And we are pretty much surrounded by water, with Puget Sound to our west and the Snohomish River to our nort and east. There are also a number of really nice islands right off the coast of Everett... about 5 to 10 minutes by boat. One small island is called Gedney Island (or Hat Island to the locals). The island is pretty much private because there is no public access to it. The ferry is private, the marina is private, and there are no public roads.
I recently found some photos of Hat Island posted in a Kodak gallery. You probably won't make it through them all (there are over 400 photos), but it will give you a nice snapshot of Hat Island and Port Gardner Bay which is where our boat is moored. Consider it a little virtual vacation to what we are calling home... at least for this chapter of our life.

So that's where Whidbey Island is... I subscribe to a writing magazine and I always see ads for a Whidbey Island Writers Conference, which sounds like it's in a serene setting. Interesting!
