Tracy and I started a Basic Boating Class through the local US Power Squadrons organization. The class is weekly through the month of May. And as a bonus, it is meeting at our church, which is kinda fun. We have already met some nice people. One couple has their new boat located right on our dock. Here is an excerpt from the USPS website. The State of Washington requires that you take a course or pass a boating safety test before you can operate a boat. Hopefully we will pass.
The USPS Boating Course is a traditional civic service of the United States Power Squadrons organization. Since 1914 local squadrons have presented the course to anyone who wished to attend - to date more than 3 million people. Learning to boat safely is important and the increased knowledge will enhance your safety on the water and your enjoyment of the sport.
This course is NASBLA and State of Washington approved boat safety course. Designed to be useful to all boaters, from the fisherman in an outboard to the skipper in a family cruiser to the sailing enthusiast. All are subject to nautical rules and regulations. All should respect traditional courtesies of the sea. All are subject to the forces of nature. The course is meant to be of interest to the entire family, older children are welcome; we encourage your family to attend as a group. Have your children attend the Kids Safety Boating Class held in conjunction with the adult course.
United States Power Squadrons® Basic Boating Course is contained in six chapters. The course is divided into two types of learning, In class lectures plus reading assignment, and homework sections, not directly covered in the classroom setting. Each section of each chapter has homework questions at the end, used to test the Student's retention of the information presented.
