We purchased our home not because it was the "perfect fit" but because it was located in a nice neighborhood and on a big lot with some great views. We are very lucky. It really is a great package. But the house itself doesn't have a lot of character or charm. Our current thinking is to (some day-not any time soon) renovate it, both to raise the value and also be something that better suits our style and lifestyle. One of our neighbors over doubled the value of their home by doing an extensive renovation.
We have decided to take the first step in planning what this renovation might look like--paying attention to what we like and dislike, what our traffic flows are through the house, what rooms we spend the most time in, what rooms tend to get the most sun, how much space we actually use, etc.
Introducing: The planning wall.
There are two big chalk boards and four small cork boards. It actually looks pretty cute. I am sure it won't take long to fill them up with observations and ideas.Next step -- save save save.
