Tonie and Gaby featured in Traverse City newspaper

Tonie and Gaby are stars! The Traverse City Record Newspaper had a story on Sunday about an art auction and fundraiser for Safe Passage. Gaby did some of the art that is being auctioned off to support Safe Passage--an organization that helps support and educate children who live at a Guatemala City dump. Tonie recently got involved in the organization after meeting a group of Safe Passage volunteers in Traverse City. And in May, she traveled to Guatemala City with Kristie to visit the organization and meet the staff. It is neat to see Gaby starting to get involved with Safe Passage too! She was born in Guatemala City.

The article tells more about Safe Passage and why Tonie got involved in the organization. Click here to read it ---> Article in Paper

You can also help raise money to help Safe Passage by purchasing the Safe Passage coffee blend from Higher Grounds Coffee Roaster in Lake Leelanau. This special coffee blend was harvested from the Guatemala City region, and a portion of the sale goes directly to Safe Passage. I didn't see it posted on their website yet, but it was supposed to be available this month. I visited their roasting facility in June and bought some of their Mexican coffee. It is awesome! And all their coffee is fairly traded and organic.
