Fall Camping

Tracy and I went fall camping with our friend Jim. We haven't really done a lot of camping here, so it was long over due. We drove about two hours into the mountains. Once you get through the mountain pass, the weather usually changes. Summers are always warmer and drier on the other east side of the Cascade Mountains. We camped about 20 miles outside of Leavenworth, a quaint Baviarian Villiage.

We stayed at Rock Island Campground on Icicle Creek. The surrounding terrain was very pretty. A lot of Ponderosa Pines and rock cliffs. We saw tons of rock climbers. There are also many campgrounds to choose from. You basically follow a 15 mile road into the mountains, and there are about 5-7 campgrounds to choose from every few miles or so. It would be a fun weekend trip for out-of-town guests in the spring/summer/fall (we have lots of extra gear). The weather is consistently good over there, and it is very pretty. We even saw a black bear on the side of the road as we were leaving.

Benson had a fun time. And of course, we stopped into Leavenworth after camping for a good burger and beer.
